Finding The FREE!

The only thing better than finding free stuff is finding good free stuff. Today I am going to tell you how I find the best free books for my Kindle.

Authors and publishers often offer e-books for free to boost sales and to generate reviews. Finding good, free e-books is not hard to do.

Finding Great Free Books on Amazon

Every day you can find hundreds if not thousands of great e-books for free on Amazon.com. Every day new e-books are added to this list.

One way to find these free eBooks is to simply go to Amazon.com's Kindle store and type “free Kindle books” in the search box. This will bring up many pages of Kindle books that are currently free. It is very easy to see at a glance how many reviews each book has gotten and how high the reviews rate. When I find a book with hundreds of four star (or higher) reviews, I can be pretty sure that the book will be good.

I can easily browse the free books by genre. I simply go to the left-hand menu and choose the genre that I am interested in. Again, I can easily see the average reviews.

Another way to easily find great free Kindle e-books is to browse the bestseller list. Amazon makes it easy by maintaining their top 100 lists.

If you click the link to bestsellers and Amazon Kindle department, you will find two choices. "Top 100 paid and "Top 100 free". Click the link to top 100 free.

Again, there is a menu on the left that will allow you to browse the genre of your choice.

I rely on Amazon’s reviews to determine which books I want to download. If a book has less than 10 reviews, but those reviews average four or five stars, I can safely assume that it is a new ebook and it will probably be a good read. If a book only has a few reviews and they all are one and two stars, I generally pass.

If a book has hundreds of reviews that average four or five stars, I can be pretty sure that I have found a winner.

About Those Reviews

When you look at reviews, keep in mind that there are people who exist in this world to rain on other people’s parades. There are thousands of books with many four and five star reviews that have a few one or two star reviews in their reviews. When the majority of the reviews are four or five stars, I tend to ignore the few low reviews.

Finding Great Free Books on Other Sites

There are many websites devoted to sharing free e-books. The Book Quest is one such site.

http://bookquest.wix.com/thebookquest

This site has a group of reviewers who personally review submitted books and offer honest, unbiased reviews. They have a newsletter that is distributed with their choices of “must reads” and include a “Free Today” list of books for their subscribers.

They keep a list of reviewed books on their facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/TheBookQuest

Other facebook pages devoted to finding great books include:

Keep in mind that sites listing free ebooks do not show the amazon number of reviews and average review ranking. This is work you will have to do yourself.

Finally I want to share Project Gutenberg. Project Gutenberg offers over 46,000 high-quality, free ebooks. All the books in the project were previously published but are no longer protected by U.S. copyright laws.

If you have a favorite old book you would like to have on your e-reader, check out Project Gutenberg to see if they have it.

Free eBooks are easy to find. Using these simple techniques, you can download several weeks’ worth of reading in about ten minutes.

Enjoy your next book!
